Because it a space where everyone is most comfortable.

and!!

Because it is where you will store your core memories.

I am not the photographer who gets wrapped up in “WOW” locations. I stopped location scouting, I stopped dwelling over the fact that I don’t live near “picturesque” landscapes, and changed my perspective. As much as I love the dreamy sunsets and mountain backdrops, I’ve learned that I value what happens within a location more so than the location itself. I see your location as a component to the overall story. It definitely adds value and is incredibly important to the entire storytelling process. This is exactly why I think your home is the perfect place to do them. Now, we don’t all have Pinterest ready homes. Mine sure as hell isn’t. Lemme make it clear though: I. DONT. CARE. The broken crayons on your floor, they’re beautiful. You will miss them. I’m not paying attention to the laundry piled up in the corner (unless it’s part of our experience!), the character within your home is what makes each of you unique and will contribute to the emotion you will experience when you look at your images. I care so much more about your kids being comfortable, your spouses, you. What I am looking for is how you share your time together and less about what color your walls are painted.
