Growing season

Things are starting to warm up here in Appalachia and everything is beginning to open and start blooming.

much like this mother who is also in peak growing season. if you would like more info on scheduling a maternity session click here

I’ve felt the wrath of having a bit of scrutiny from the peanut gallery over my work being so revealing since I’ve entered the realm of all things intimate birth and motherhood. I had every intention of explaining deeper, of trying to articulate my thoughts with the hopes of being less mis-understood.

A couple things I have learned that have helped me grow:

  1. creating work to please others is a surefire way to fail. art is meant to be subjective. art is allowed to be controversial. create from your heart.

  2. not everybody needs to understand or appreciate your work for it to be valid.

  3. one of the biggest reasons i love and appreciate skin is the removal of distractions- no fancy landscapes, no patterned clothing, no crazy props- and finding ways to get creative with the focus being nothing but the subject.

^ and this is why i decided to NOT make some entry **this time!!** about nudity and skin and explanation or justification. the focus deserves to be on these photos and this absolutely beautiful mother.
